The family bell
I bought a desk bell a few years ago and it always gets placed on the dining room table at my parent's home when we have family visits. The rule is that someone can ring the bell when they get extremely bored or uncomfortable with the conversation. It most circumstances, everyone agrees with the ringer and we move on to another topic. Saved by the bell.
